EOIs Open for Sapphire Coast Representative Coach Positions
AFL Sapphire Coast are excited to announce that all representative coaching positions have been made vacant and are now open to community nominations.
In 2023, the AFL Sapphire Coast representative sides travelled to Nowra participating against Central West and South Coast teams. For the Under-15s and Under-17s, the two teams picked up a win each against the Illawarra Storm sides, whilst the Girls and 13s put up valiant performances against their strong opposition.
Casey White, Community Football & Competition Manager – South Coast spoke about the importance of the competition’s representative program. “Rep footy was one of our management shortcomings during last season. We know it is integral to a positive participant experience and have learned a lot from 2023.”
“We have met with this year’s rep coaches and outlined our plan to greatly improve the process in 2024. Hopefully, the Sapphire Coast community can see this and encourage the kids to participate next season.”
“It is integral to the success of representative football, that we have as many things in place, as early as possible. This will allow our coaches to plan their program for the players, as well as give certainty to families that everything is in order ahead of season 2024.”
Representative coaching positions for all teams, including senior, are open now and will close on Sunday January 21. Applications can be made by completing the coaching form here. Whilst there is still some uncertainty around the status of senior representative football, the intent is to get the senior sides a game. For all rep sides, this starts with getting our coaches locked in significantly ahead of the season.
In addition to the coaching roles, AFL Sapphire Coast have created a Representative Coordinator position, to assist with the delivery of the representative program for 2024. The role will act as a link between AFL Sapphire Coast staff and coaches/parents, freeing up staff to receive communication from one person, and ensuring that important elements of representative football are still being delivered once the season begins.
Volunteers play a critical part of every sporting club, and AFL Sapphire Coast have decided that some additional support will allow representative football to thrive whilst ensuring there are local people driving positive outcomes. To apply for the Representative Coordinator role, complete the application form here.
The recruitment of the representative teams will begin during pre-season, in early April, with teams to be announced in early May. Representative Football is currently scheduled for the weekend of 6/7 July in Nowra.
