SENIOR REP CONFIRMED FOR 2017

The Sapphire Coast AFL representative program has been confirmed for the 2017 season with AFL Sapphire Coast to take on AFL South Coast on Saturday the 20th May at Hanging Rock Oval, Bateman’s Bay.

The game will commence at 3pm with both teams confident of having more representative success in 2017 after a strong showing in 2016. AFL Sapphire Coast were too good for AFL Canberra 4th grade in 2016 running out 17.19-121 to 5.6-36 winners in a dominant display on home soil whilst AFL South Coast were also too strong for AFL Canberra 3rd grade with a 15.13-103 to 10.9-69 win.

AFL Sapphire Coast Football Operations Coordinator, Jarrod Moore said it was exciting to be playing against AFL South Coast in 2017. “It will be an exciting game for the players. We had really good buy in by the players in 2016 which showed with the convincing result against AFL Canberra and we will be hoping to put another strong side together in 2017. Having the game away from the Queen’s birthday weekend will also help to get strong numbers”.

AFL Sapphire Coast last played AFL South Coast in 2014 in Nowra with the leagues northern rivals claiming the spoils on that day.

Luke Taylor has been reappointed as head coach after a successful 2016 campaign and is looking forward to another successful representative campaign.

“It’s a good feeling to be involved in something that can help grow the league and put our boys on display,” Taylor said.

“I’ve got a bit of an idea of what the team could look like, but it obviously changes year to year.

“Just hopefully we can retain the core group of those players who were involved last year.”

“I’m sure they’ll be putting their best foot forward, and we want that, we want to be playing the best footy possible, for our development, and for the spectators.”
