Round 3 Preview
Tathra v Narooma
Top spot will be on the line this weekend when the Sea Eagles host the Lions at Lawrence Park. The Sea Eagles got a solid win last weekend against the Panthers after a slow start that saw the Panthers jump out to a 15 point quarter time lead. Dean Gartside and Louis Coulton were the key men again for Tathra with 7 and 5 goals respectively. The Lions were impressive once again in Round 2 against the Diggers running out 70 point winners. The Lions were aided by Simon Mackie’s 11 goal haul and will be hopeful of snapping the Sea Eagles unbeaten run. Player to Watch: Louis Coulton, the Tathra man has been one of the key options up forward for the Sea Eagles in 2017. Prediction: Tathra by 14 Points.

Bermagui v Merimbula
The Breakers were able to flick the switch last weekend against the Whalers in the first term kicking 10 goals to set up their comprehensive win. Bermagui will be hoping to do so again this weekend in their home match against the Diggers searching for their first win in 2017. The Diggers started well last weekend holding the Lions in check although the Merimbula side were not able to run out the 4 quarters. There were some better signs last weekend from the Diggers although if Bermagui are able to click like in round 2 Merimbula will have a tough time getting the 4 points. Player to Watch: Daniel Smith, was the key cog for the Breakers in last weekends big win. Prediction: Bermagui by 33 Points.

Pambula v Eden
The Panthers would have been happy with their first term in week 2 although would have been bitterly disappointed with the rest of their game going down to the Sea Eagles. Pambula will be looking forward to getting back on their home deck this weekend in which they will have a bit more time and space compared to Lawrence Park. The Panthers still don’t have a go to man in the forward line which they will be hoping to rectify in coming weeks. The Whalers come off a tough loss and coach Liam Wilkinson will be asking his players for a better effort against Pambula this weekend. Player to Watch: Justin Dickson, Pambula’s new recruit showed he has plenty to offer. Prediction: Pambula by 71Points.

Women’s
After week 2, the Eden Whalers have secured solid wins against solid opposition in Tathra and Bermagui, both finalists in the 2016 campaign. The Whalers have another tough contest this weekend against Pambula who is flying so gar in 2017. This match will be one of the matches of the round with the winner set to be premiership favourites. Bermagui and Merimbula go into their contest winless in 2017 with both teams lookingfor their first win. The Diggers have had a tough couple of weeks although will be confident against a Bermagui side boasting a number of youth and new players. A local rivalry will be born this weekend with Tathra taking on Bega. The Sea Eagles will be looking to bounce back from their week 1 loss whilst the Bombers will be keen to get their first score on the board after being held scoreless in week 2. The Bombers will be better from their first run together. In the final match Madelyne Czubara will take on her old side in the BM Giants. The Giants have had a late push and have recruited a number of youth girls as they look to start 2017 off in style. The Lions will be looking to keep their momentum rolling after two straight wins. Player to Watch: Luxmi Selvakumaran, Player to watch for the Giants. Has played with Bermagui on permit the past 2 weeks and will be looking to have a good performance for the Giants. Prediction: Eden, Bermagui, Tathra & Narooma.

Development
This weekend sees what may be the grand final preview between Pambula and Tathra. Both have been impressive in their first match in 2017 and both will be eager to take top spot after this weekend. The Panthers will be well rested and keen to make use of home ground advantage. It was a tough first up game for the Giants last weekend although they should be more competitive against the Lions in round 3. The Lions will be confident coming into this weekends match after trouncing Merimbula in round 2. Giants home game could hold key. Prediction: Pambula & Narooma.

Round 3 Preview
Under 16’s
The Giants claimed a thrilling win against Bermagui in their first match in the 16’s grade and taking on Narooma at home the Giants will be confident of making it two straight. The Giants have picked up Will Aiken and Buster Ware from B/Bay who will be key players for the team. Narooma will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss against Merimbula last weekend. The Diggers were impressive last weekend sharing the ball around well against the Lions and a win against Bermagui this weekend will see the club back on track in 2017. The Breakers will look for a 4 quarter effort this weekend. Player to Watch: Will Aiken, BMG key pick up was fantastic in rd 2. The ex Sea Hawk controlled the midfield against the Breakers gaining possessions in wide open spaces. Prediction: Merimbula & BM Giants.

Under 13’s
The top 2 in Bermagui and Merimbula go head to head this weekend. The Diggers salvaged a poor first half against Narroma last weekend to storm home whilst the Breakers have been clinical in 2017 sweeping aside Narooma and the Giants. Home ground form will be key for another Bermagui win. Narooma have been in games in 2027 although haven’t been able to get over the line. The Lions will hope to change their fortes this weekend against the Giants who were rusty in their first hit out losing to the reigning premiers convincingly. Returning to Kyla Park this weekend will help BMG and this is a must win to make finals in 2017. The final game sees Eden play their first match in the grade against the Panthers who put together a strong win against Bega last weekend. Will Seach and Will Kellar will be key to the Panthers this weekend. Player to Watch: Noah Overend, the Digger kicked 3 goals last weekend to guide his side to victory in a close contest. Prediction: Bermagui, Narooma & Pambula.

Under 11’s
The Bega Bombers kicked off 2017 with a solid win against Pambula at home last weekend and will look to make it 2 from 2 as they travel down the road to take on Tathra. The Sea Eagles battled hard against premiership contenders the Giants last weekend and will once again be looking take it up to the Bombers. The Whalers pushed last years premiers Bermagui for 4 quarters on the weekend playing a stout defensive game. If Eden bring the same approach on Saturday against a winless Pambula the Whalers will have a great chance to capture their second win. The Panthers young squad has improved over their past two games and will look to take that next step to secure a win. After being so dominant in 2016 the 2017 version of the Breakers doesn’t appear to be quite as experienced as last years team after a narrow win in last weekends match against Eden. Although that may be the case, Bermagui will start favorites against the Diggers coming off a 1 point loss against Narooma last weekend. The Giants host Narooma this weekend at home and this will be the match of the round between two sides in good form. The Giants come off a good first up win although will be hoping to be more accurate in front of goal this weekend. The Lions have been the big improvers in 2017 and will be looking to show the comp just how far if they can beat last years grand finalists. Player to Watch: Martin Preston, kicked 5 goals in last weekends win against Tathra. A big performance will be needed if they are to knock of the Lions. Predictions: Bega, Eden, Bermagui & BM Giants.
